A Level 2 charger needs its own circuit and enough spare capacity in the panel to carry it, on top of everything the house already draws. That is the whole question, and it is answered by looking at the panel rather than by reading the charger’s instructions.
In the older houses on the town grid the answer is often no, because the service is 60 or 100 amp and was never sized for a car. In the newer planned communities the service is usually big enough and the panel is full, which is a different problem with the same result: there is nowhere to land the circuit without moving something.
Sometimes there’s room and it’s a straightforward afternoon. Sometimes the charger and a panel upgrade are one job. We’d rather tell you which before you buy the unit than after it’s sitting in your garage.
Where the car actually parks matters too. A detached garage or a parking pad away from the house means a buried run and its own set of decisions, and on an elevated lot the height of anything outdoors is a flood-zone question before it is a convenience one.
