Stainless and marine-rated hardware costs more up front and it’s the whole difference. If you are comparing quotes for outdoor work and one is noticeably cheaper, the honest question to ask is what fixtures and what fittings it specifies, because that’s usually where the gap is.

Where the runs go, how they are buried or routed, how the circuit is protected, and on an elevated lot in a flood zone, at what height. The fixtures are the part you see and the smaller part of the work.

Both, and the first is usually the better use of us. We’ll walk the property and talk through where light actually needs to be, which is rarely where people first imagine. If you have already bought fixtures we will fit them, though it is worth a conversation first if they are not rated for this environment, because we would rather say so before they are in the ground.

Because almost none of the work is at the fixture. Getting a circuit to an eave, a gable or a dark corner of the house usually means running cable through an attic or a crawl space, and on a hot day in an unconditioned attic that is genuinely the job. The fixture goes up in minutes. Everything before it does not.

Yes. Dusk-to-dawn photocells, motion sensors and timers are all straightforward, and for a house that sits empty part of the year they are worth more than they cost. For an owner who is three states away most of the season, lighting that runs itself is the difference between a house that looks lived in and one that plainly does not.
